Ron La Forest Sculptor Ron La Forest was born and raised in Southern California. Because he lived between the beach and downtown Los Angeles, he was exposed to both the casual laid back lifestyle of the coast and the driving lifestyle of the city. His parents would take him to the city where he loved seeing the old dept. stores, and theatres - places like the Pantages and the Pan Pacific auditorium. He always felt like he belonged to the deco era. The deco designs of the buildings and products of that era influenced many of his designs. Throughout his life several artists and designers have also left a big impression on him, like Ron Erte', Donald Duskey, Eileen Gray, and Harvey Earle to name a few. Ron always wanted to develop a style that he felt would have carried on where deco left off. Ron likes to work with different metals and loves the challenge of forming that material, dreaming up new designs for his sculptures and art creations, keeping his finishes natural and reusing materials in his creativity when he can. Ron & his wife Karen have a love for the unusual, and appreciate life in many ways. Whether working together in raising a family or developing a business, life has been a great journey for the both of them. Ron's hobbies are sculpting, collecting classic automobiles and flying. Art can be Functional Through the years working with metal and creating his designs, Ron has always made his art creations functional, wanting people to have a piece of art that could also be used, and keeping quality workmanship in everything he does. He could never understand shy art couldn't be useful as well as pleasing to the eyes. |
